I enrolled my twin 8 year old girls in Choe's Hapkido in Mt. Airy a little over a year ago. My husband and I choose this studio because of the focus on respect, discipline, self defense, and the character of the instructors. My girls have improved in physical coordination, conflict resolution, and overall respect for everyone around them. The instructors are dedicated to making sure our children learn to make good choices in every aspect of their lives. I highly recommend Choe's Hapkido to anyone who is looking for an all encompassing experience physical, mental, and spiritual.
It seems like martial arts studios are popping up everywhere. While “shopping” studios years ago my husband was traveling to Japan and Korea. He was told that Grand Master Choe has an impeccable reputation and if our kids had an opportunity to train under any of his academies we should not let the opportunity pass. How lucky are we that there is one in Mt. Airy, MD?! We signed up 3 years ago and our son (14) and daughter (15) are working towards their black belts this year. We couldn’t be more pleased. The amount of coordination, strength, focus and self-discipline they have gained over the years is incredible. The instructors are top notch and have a talent of working with all age groups, each giving their own personal touch to the art. It’s not a cookie cutter studio where all you have to do is show up and get advanced to your next belt. They talk about respect, determination, serving the community, how to focus, what it means to be a good citizen etc. The owner of the studios also meets individually with the kids to see how they are doing in school. He feels he has a vested interest in them succeeding in life and it shows. The class times are extremely flexible. You can come when your schedule allows and it can be different every week. This is hands down the highest quality studio in the area. Join, you won’t be disappointed.
Our entire family has been training at Choe’s HapKiDo in Mt. Airy for nearly a year and it has helped us grow stronger as individuals and as a family. The level of dedication and knowledge at Choe’s is unsurpassed in our experience. We learn an original and traditional martial art in a challenging, rewarding, and fun environment by instructors who are dedicated to fostering the development and betterment of the whole person. It is a huge benefit to us, as parents, to hear other respected adults reinforce the positive lessons we try to instill in our children. I enrolled my 8 year old son in the academy and have closely observed his progress and method of instruction practiced here. I am very pleased; Luke Kissell , the senior instructor, is a talented martial artist and teacher. In every class, he spends time with each student in focused instruction, while teaching discipline and martial values with the right balance of patience and kindness that my young son needs. Same for instructor Sean (who teaches on Saturdays). I had previously enrolled my son in another Mt Airy studio and, suffice it to say , not all schools have equal teaching cultures. I strongly recommend this school.
Two words their focus on come to mind when I think about my time with Choe's Hapkido: High Quality. No where will you find a higher degree of experience, teaching and education than here. Plus, all the classes are active and fun, which keeps me coming back.
